From the supplier: The government of the recently independent Slovakia has installed state control of the media to a degree similar to that of the former communist government. Under Slovak nationalist Vladimir Meciar, himself a former communist, the press has been given freedoms except where state interests may supercede them.The Ministry of Culture has pursued vigorous campaigns against anyone critical of the government. In the Czech Republic, press freedom has been more extensive, including the publishing of a western style tabloid, Blesk.
