Customer Rating: Summary: Want to catch more fish? Comment: If you think you catch a lot of fish using an indicator, dry fly fishing, or whatever, let me tell you this technique will produce more hook ups. I began exploring this technique when I found out that the US Olympic fly fishing team uses it. A friend of mine guided on a river in Utah and ran into a member of the US team, and they became friends and he showed him this technique. All I could hear from him was about Czech/French/Polish nymphing, or "tight line nymphing." I originally learned how to nymph using the tight line technique, but when I came out West it was all about hopper dropper, or indicator fishing, so I adapted with success. So I was a little skeptical about this technique at first, but combined with the Czech style nymph pattern, it can be deadly. It allows you to bounce a nymph along the bottom, fish one in the water column and fish an emerger pattern all at the same time. Do not get me wrong, when there is a dry fly hatch or hoppers on the water, I will fish them, but remember that ~80% of a fishes diet is nymphs. I forgot to mention that the US team got the technique from the Czechs because they were tired of losing to them in tournaments, and this book is written by a Czech. The most comprehensive and informative book on the technique and color photos of every fly pattern associated with it. If you are serious about catching fish, and want another technique in your arsenal, buy this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: An excellent resource for fly fishers of all skill levels Comment: The author has put together one of the most comprehensive works relating to nymph fishing that I have seen in over 40 years of fly tying and fly fishing. You will find information that would take countless years to gain through trial and error, experimentation with fly designs and the development of a technique that has proved itself to be extremely effective.
The Czech fly fishers are fishing in World Competitions and their fly designs and techniques have been successful in winning World Championships. These are truly world-class events and those participating are some of the finest fisherman in the world. When you add up these resources there are several lifetimes of knowledge shared with the rest of us. The reader will gain an understanding of hook rationale and fly design, fly tying methods, presentation, a knowledge of reading the water and knowing what water types are most favorable for this technique.
Of all of the books that I have purchased over the years this is without a doubt one of the finest and most comprehensive works I have ever seen and it should be in any serious fly fishers library. Michael McCoy, Owner, Snake Brand Guides
