Customer Rating: Summary: Rick Steves on Prague Comment: We enjoy Rick Steves reviews and use them in our travels. We always supplement with another guidebook (DK, National Geographic), as sometimes he is just too damn smug and opinionated. For example, on this trip, he had two good reviews and suggestions on places to stay in small towns outside Prague (Cesky Krumlov & Trebon) and both were exactly as advertised. Some of his low reviews on restaurants do not seem to be accurate, as we have eaten at both restaurants recommended and ones to be avoided on his list, and generally think we can do a better job in finding our own food.
Positive is some of the insight he gives in the description of items in museums, the negative is the lack of good photos and maps(he admits this and says to buy a good map when you get there.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great, great guidebook!! Comment: As an airline pilot for over 13 years and an USAF pilot for nearly 20 years I have circled the globe a few times over in my travels. I fly to South America, Paris or Madrid once a week for a living and I have never been so taken by a guidebook as I have been by Rick's! My wife and I just finished a 1 week trip to Prague last week and everything in the book was spot on. The sights, the eating and the lodging recommendations were all followed and greatly appreciated. Very down-to earth, no-nonsense yet filled with humor. Some reveiwers seem to troubled by some political overtones of Rick's - leave the politics at home folks! You're in somebody else's backyard. My son and his fiancee are planning a 10 day honeymoon in Europe for July - one book they will not leave home without is their Rick Steves guidebook!! Fodors, Frommers - forget them. Lonely Planet - you've got to be kidding!! Thanks Rick - customer for life.
